Access to quality healthcare is a top priority for homebuyers, especially retirees and families with young children. Lakewood Ranch has built out a medical infrastructure that keeps pace with its population growth, anchored by a full-service hospital and an expanding network of specialty providers. Here's what's available.

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center is the community's primary hospital, serving patients since 2004. A new five-story patient tower opened in early 2026 as part of a $120 million expansion, adding 60 beds to the campus. The hospital was named to Forbes' 2026 Top Hospitals survey — one of only 29 facilities in Florida to earn the recognition. Services include emergency care, surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, women's health, and imaging.

Adjacent medical office buildings house primary care physicians and specialists, creating a medical campus where patients can handle hospital visits and specialist appointments in a single trip.

Expanding Healthcare Network

Major health systems are investing heavily in the Lakewood Ranch corridor. BayCare is developing a $563 million project that includes BayCare Hospital Manatee and a BayCare HealthHub on Moccasin Wallow Road. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, HCA Florida, and AdventHealth all operate facilities within a short drive. The result is growing competition among health systems, which generally translates to better access and more options for patients.

Urgent Care and Walk-In Clinics

Multiple urgent care and walk-in clinics operate along the University Parkway and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard corridors. These handle non-emergency issues — minor injuries, illness, prescriptions — without the wait times of an emergency room. Most accept walk-ins during extended hours, and several offer telehealth options.

Specialty Care

Specialty care continues to expand as the population grows. Cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, dermatology, gastroenterology, and mental health providers all have offices in or near Lakewood Ranch. The concentration of retirees in the community drives strong demand for specialty care, and providers have responded by opening satellite offices closer to where patients live.

Pediatric Care

Families with children have access to pediatricians, pediatric dentists, and children's specialty care within the Lakewood Ranch area. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg — one of the top pediatric hospitals in the Southeast — is about 60 minutes north for specialized pediatric needs.

What This Means for Homebuyers

Healthcare proximity matters for quality of life and for resale value. Lakewood Ranch's medical infrastructure is one of its strongest lifestyle advantages — you're not in a rural community where the nearest specialist is 45 minutes away. The hospital expansion and new health system investments signal that providers see long-term growth here, which is a positive indicator for the community's trajectory.
