Lakewood Ranch was designed around outdoor living. The community maintains over 150 miles of trails, 33 parks, and 12 nature preserves — infrastructure that most Florida developments promise in marketing materials but rarely deliver at this scale. If access to parks, trails, and green space is on your priority list, here's what you're working with.

The Trail Network

The trail system is the backbone of outdoor recreation in Lakewood Ranch. Over 150 miles of paved, multi-use trails connect neighborhoods to parks, town centers, schools, and commercial areas. Most are wide enough for walking, running, and cycling side by side. The trails run through preserve corridors, around lakes, and along major boulevards, making it possible to commute by bike or take a long run without repeating your route.

Community Parks

Bob Gardner Park is one of the most popular, with a mile of trails, sports courts, disc golf, dog parks, pavilions, and a gravity rail for kids — all set against wetland preserves. Greenbrook Adventure Park draws families with its oversized playground structures and splash features. Each village within Lakewood Ranch typically has its own pocket parks, playgrounds, and recreational amenities in addition to the community-wide facilities.

Waterside Park

Waterside Park is an 8-acre island park on Kingfisher Lake with volleyball courts, exercise pods, a splash pad, playground, and an event lawn. It's connected to Waterside Place by a pedestrian bridge and serves as both a daily-use park and an event venue. Sunday morning yoga, outdoor movies, and seasonal festivals all happen here.

Nature Preserves

Twelve nature preserves are woven throughout the community, protecting native habitat and providing wildlife viewing corridors. These are functional green spaces, not decorative buffers. You'll encounter wading birds, gopher tortoises, deer, and the occasional bobcat on the trails that pass through preserve areas. The preserves also serve as stormwater management infrastructure — a practical reason they'll remain undeveloped.

Sports and Recreation

Premier Sports Campus covers 140 acres with 22 mixed-use fields and hosts regional and national youth tournaments in soccer, lacrosse, and flag football. The campus is expanding with a new 44,000-square-foot Athletics and Aquatics Center scheduled to open in late 2026, adding a competition pool, therapy pool, and 24 pickleball courts. The Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club offers 72 holes across four courses for members.
